How to install Metasploitable 2 in VirtualBox or VMware

Hey guys in this blog post I'm gonna be showing u how to install Metasploitable2 in VirtualBox or VMware. Both the installation procedures are more or less same.

So let's start.

Step 1:

Download the Metasploitable 2 zip file from this link: https://goo.gl/UjYK4U

Step 2:

Extract the zip file with winrar or any other zip extractor and keep it in a separate folder, where ever u want(don't pick restricted directories viz. system32 etc :p)

Step 3:

Open up ur Virtual Machine, I m using Virtual Box. Then select new virtual Machine from the top left hand corner.

Step 4:

Give ur Virtual machine a name, in this case I m giving Metasploitable2, and select Type as Linux and version as whatever u want :p better would be Ubuntu :) and hit next.

Step 5:

It will then ask u to allocate some RAM, give it whatever value u want. I m giving it 256 MB.

Step 6:

Now it will ask u to locate the iso file(in this case that of Metasplotable2). Now just click the 3rd option and select the small folder type icon that u can see in the screenshot and locate the iso file select it and hit create.

Then u will see Meatsploitable 2 appear :)

As seen below.

Step 7:

Now just select the Virtual OS in this case its metasploitable2 and hit settings and then select the Network tab.

From there select Attached to: NAT Network and the Name: NatNetwork(in this case, may differ in ur case :D) then hit OK.

Step 8:

Now simply start the Virtual Machine as u generally start a Virtual OS :)

When it starts it will look some  what like below screenshot. Don't worry about all the garbage it shows while it boots.. let it do its Booting job :D

Step 9:

Once it has booted up, it will ask u for username and password, which are both msfadmin and msfadmin respectively.

Step 10:

Once it has booted up normally and u have logged in, it will provide u with a linux terminal now just type ifconfig to see the Local IP. In this case its 10.0.2.7

This IP can be used to iteract with that VM locally :)
